So, the 7 people reading this might be in need of some new music in their life. Luckily, I have a playlist (titled wicked good mixtape #47) that has over 2000 classic songs from the past 60+ years. I plan to hit shuffle on my playlist every morning, and post that song as the song of the day. Some days I may have a brief story or fun facts to go along with the song, but the purpose is to share good music with Pastime Fans.
Today's song of the day is Come and Get Your Love by Redbone. This song, released in 1973, made Redbone the first Native American band to reach the top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, and is considered by many to be their best song. The first time I heard this song was watching F is for Family (Bill Burr + Animation is as good as I expected) and I was immediately intrigued by the song. The bass/lead guitar is very funky/catchy, and it's a sing along song with more noises than actual words for lyrics. Apparently, Redbone still tours today despite 4/5 of the OG members being dead, as the bass player Pat Vegas tours as Redbone and plays his solo work and the band's former hits. If I had to guess, he probably has to play Come and Get Your Love every show he does, and as most musicians feel with their hits he's probably a bit tired of requests for it. Though I don't think I'll be attending any Redbone concerts anytime soon, this song is a good one and should be a part of your playlist.
P.S This man invented a far more aggressive version of the gritty some 40 years ago (example above)
