Can the Jets Save Their Season?

The Jets currently sit 8 games behind the Preds with 26 games remaining (15 of those being considered "quality" games). Fans in Winnipeg should be a bit nervous, as the Jets have dropped 7 of their last 9, and they have struggled to string wins together all season, with their longest win streak being only 4 games, which was back in october.

I hate to count a team out, but I believe the Jets should blow it up and begin their rebuild. With the trade deadline approaching, the Jets should look to move pending FA's Andrew Copp and Paul Stastny, who are both solid top 6 forwards (Copp particularly could get them a solid return of draft picks/prospects) and moving them will clear up cap space to sign 2 more solid defensemen in free agency, which they desperately need. If the Jets can develop their prospects (Nikita Chibrikov has future all star written all over him) they have/could obtain through trading Copp and Stastny, along with add 1-2 solid players to their defense, this rebuild could be very short (1-2 years) and have them back in contention. The important thing for fans in Winnipeg to remember is that they have Connor Hellebuyck , one of the top goalies in the league, and they have assets to move to obtain draft capital. If they draft well, and prospects like Chibrikov and NCAA star Nathan Smith develop into the stars they seemed destined to be, this team will have a very bright future. I'm no expert, but I think the Jets are at least a few pieces away from raising Lord Stanley's cup, but if they start their rebuild now, they could get their sooner than later.
