This was absolutely horrible news to read, as Adam Schefter tweeted that Dwayne Haskins died after being hit by a car this morning in Florida. I'm not including Schefter's tweet, because it will likely be deleted as he for some reason felt that need to mention how Haskins struggled in the NFL before announcing the news. There are not many details on the accident, and I'm not interested in reporting any. I'd like to highlight the life Haskin's lived. Growing up in New Jersey, Haskins was a NY Giants fan with dreams of making it to the NFL. He was described as a hard worker, humble, and friendly person who always wanted to help people. Haskins originally committed to Maryland, but switched to OSU after coaching changes at Maryland. He only ended up starting at OSU for one year, but that one year made him a buckeye legend forever. Haskins threw for just shy of 5,000 yards and 50 TD's to just 8 INT's, setting several team season and game records for total yardage. He was a Big 10 and Rose Bowl champion, winning MVP at both games, while finishing third in the Heisman voting. Haskins was drafted by the then Washington Redskins (Now Commanders) 15th overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, and though his career hadn't totally panned out yet, he was still working hard to earn a spot in the league, as he was actually training with Steelers teammates when the tragedy happened today. Whether Haskins became a starter in the league or not, he had accomplished more in his short amount of time on earth than most people will in their 80+ years of life.
I'd also like to remind everyone that life is short and you should never take even a second on this earth for granted. Be grateful for all that you have in life, and always tell anyone you care about that you care about them, as you never know when tragedy will strike. Rest in peace Dwayne, you were a hell of a football player, but from what I can tell an even better person.
